Managing Director of Marketing & Communications at Fund of Funds (Bay Area, Immediate Start)--ID#: 10323
Background:
Menlo Park based private investment firm managing over $6bn is seeking an analytical, team-oriented marketing professional to lead the firm's efforts to communicate the "why and how" the firm invests its financial, intellectual, and philanthropic capital. Working closely with the rest of the senior management team, the Managing Director will design and execute the firm's identity, marketing, and public relations strategy, ensuring that it is effectively communicated to all of the firm's stakeholders. The Managing Director is also responsible for managing and developing a dynamic, collaborative team of three professionals.
The ideal candidate also understands the investment industry, preferably alternative investments, and the regulatory environment in which the firm operates.
Role and Responsibilities:
The Firm
Develop firm-wide marketing strategy, including branding and identity
Manage internal and external resources to create high-quality communications that effectively convey brand and product messages to a variety of audiences
Direct the design, production, and updating of all marketing collateral
Build strong relationships with the Investment Team, Client Management, and other groups, to ensure that product and other developments are effectively, proactively communicated in a timely manner to all interested stakeholders
Develop and implement public relations strategy, including crisis communications, media mentions, and speaking engagements
Ensure continuous improvement in marketing efforts by monitoring the competitive landscape and analyzing the current investor and prospect base
Set and track performance metrics to evaluate the success of the firm's marketing strategies
Work with Human Resources to ensure that product, operational, organizational, and other developments of cross-functional interest are effectively disseminated widely within the firm
Work with Operations/Strategy and Client Management to improve investor reporting and communications to build and strengthen relationships with our investors
The Investments
Develop marketing and positioning strategies for new and existing products and across the firm's investment platform
Assist in the development of materials that communicate fund analytics
Oversee and approve internal communications regarding investment attribution and performance
The Markets and Economy
Manage the development of the firm's Quarterly Letters
Leverage the work of the Global Institute and Investment Team to produce compelling content that communicates the firm's unique investment perspective
Develop marketing strategy to promote and disseminate economic and market commentary and position firm as an industry thought leader
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
Hire and manage appropriate vendors to execute marketing strategy
Manage group budget, timeline, and priorities
Work closely with Client Management and Operations Teams to develop strategic approach to delivering investor reporting and communications
Compensation:
Commensurate with experience, though will include base and bonus coupled with a highly attractive benefits package.
Qualifications:
A minimum of ten years of marketing and public relations experience, preferably in financial services or alternative investments
Exceptional ability to communicate complex economic and market concepts into clear, effective communication and marketing materials
Excellent writing, editing, and presentation skills
Management and supervisory experience
Proven ability to develop relationships across an organization
Capacity to serve as a bridge between quantitatively-minded portfolio managers and more qualitatively-minded marketing professionals
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
High degree of diplomacy and superior interpersonal skills
Excellent project management skills with an ability to take initiative, prioritize, and handle multiple tasks and projects simultaneously
Ability to thrive in a dynamic, mission-focused, consensus-driven organization
Proficient computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
BA/BS degree from a top-tier school required
Graduate degree preferred
Candidates must hold exceptional ethics, and be confident working independently across regions, projects, and areas of expertise. A demonstrated can-do, entrepreneurial spirit is required.
